Prevalence of dyslipidemia among residents of Shanzhen city

  • Objective To study the distribution characteristics of plasma total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) levels, and dyslipidemia among the residents aged form 18 to 69 years in Shenzhen city. Methods Totally 73 communities and 8 751 residents were sampled through stratified randomized sampling and the information of the residents was collected by questionnaire survey, physical examination and laboratory tests. Results The levels of TC,TG and HDL-C were 4.86 mmol/L,1.57 mmol/L,and 1.23 mmol/L,respectively.The TG and TC in the males were higher than in the females(P < 0.05) and increased with age(P < 0.05).Among the partcipants,3 568 had dyslipidemia(38.08%) and the rates of high TG,high TG,and lowHDL-C were 17.22%,25.72%,and 10.65%,respectively.The main type of dyslipidemia was high TG.The prevalence of dyslipidemia was higher for female(P < 0.05) and the prevalence of high TC increased with age(P < 0.05).There existed aggregation of risk factors among the participants with dyslipidemia. Conclusion High prevalence of dyslipidemia in Shenzhen city was found.Control of lipid levels within normal range may prevent the occurrence of cardiovascular disease.
