Influence of gene-environment interactions on longevity in Bama county

  • Objective To assess the influence of gene-environment and gene-gene interactions on longevity in Bama county. Methods Both gene-environment and gene-gene interactions among 189 longevous individuals(≥90 years old) from both longevity and non-longevity regions were evaluated according to case-only approach using cross-product odd ratio(COR).Blood samples were collected from all subjects.Alleles and genotypes of 23 loci, such as CSF1PO A9,were analyzed. Results Significant negative interactions between longevity region and D7S820 A12(COR=0.353,95% confidence intervalCI:0.142-0.882,χ2=5.287,P=0.021),longevity region and TH01 A10(COR=0.111,95% CI:0.038-0.328,χ2=17.439,P=0.000),longevity region and TH01 A9-10(COR=0.062,95% CI:0.014-0.283,χ2=21.009,P=0.001) were showed when ten alleles and thirteen genotypes were analyzed. There was no significant gene-gene interaction between D7S820 A12 and TH01 A10(COR=1.536,95% CI:0.543-4.345,χ2=0.279,P=0.597).Conclusion The results suggest that the population from longevity region carrying the alleles of D7S820 A12,TH01 A10,and TH01 A9-10 genotype may reduce longevity.Gene-enviroment interactions between longevity region and genes may influence longevity in Bama, which is probably one of the reasons that there is a nonuniform distribution of longevous population in Bama.
