Survey on knowledge, attitude, and practice related to virus hepatitis among undergraduates

Objective To investigate the status of knowledge,attitude,and practice(KAP) related to virus hepatitis among undergraduates of nuiversities in Gansu province and to provide scientific basis for making effective strategies and measures against hepatitis.Methods A questionnaire survey on KAP about hepatitis was conducted.Totally 2 877 college students were selected with stratifed cluster sampling method from 47 colleges or universities.Results The awareness rates about main transmission way of hepatitis were low(14.14%-40.91%) and the awareness rates about other hepatitis knowledge were relatively high(60.38%-85.05%).Referring for the infection of classmate,only 18.42%(530) of the students believed that it would not affect the contact with the infected and only 29.27%(842) considered that they did not mind eating together with hepatitis B virus(HBV) carrier.Although 76.54%(2 202) of the students surveyed were immunized with HBV vaccine,the full-course coverage rates was 27.25%(802).Only 11.26%(324) of the students had inoculated with hepatitis A virus vaccine.There was a significant difference in the partial content of hepatitis KAP between the students of different nationalities,origin,and majoring(P < 0.01 or P < 0.05).Conclusion The awareness rates of undergraduates about main transmission way of hepatitis are lowand their waareness rates about other hepatitis knowledge are relatively high.Undergraduates have serious discrimination against HBV carrier.The inoculation rate of hepatitis A vaccine and whole range of HBV vaccine is lowamong the college students.
