Effect of anthocyanin from Vaccinium uliginosum on SOD, GSH-PX and GH in rats with passive smoking

  • Objective To explore the effect of anthocyanin from Vaccinium uliginosum on damage of passive smoking. Methods Thirty-two rats were randomly divided into control group(CG),passive smoking group(PSG),low-dose anthocyanin group(LDG),and high-dose anthocyanin group(HDG).The increase of body weight, lung weight and lung quotiety, growth hormone(GH),superoxide dismutase(SOD),and the activity of glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) of the rats were determined. Results The GSH-Px of PSG was significantly lower than that of CG(P < 0.05).The GSH-Px of HDG was obviously higher than those of PSG and LDG.The SOD of PSG was not obviously different from that of CG.The SOD of HDG and LDG was significantly higher than that of PSG(P < 0.05).Weight growth and GH of PSG was distinctly lower than that of CG.The GH of HDG and LDG was obviously higher than that of PSG.Conclusion High-dose anthocyanin can improve impacts of passive smoking on growing development and overoxidation and the mechanism may include the increase of SOD,GSH-Px to withstand the damage of passive smoking.
