Occupational stress and quality of life among teachers in different universities

  • Objective To examine the relation between occupational stress and quality of life among teachers in three different universities in Jinzhou city.Methods Occupational stress was measured with Occupational Stress Inventory Revised Edition(OSI-R) and the quality of life of the teachers was measured with MOS36-Item Short Form Health Survey(SF-36).Results After adjusting for age,education background and other related factors,the score of personal strain was significantly different(F=40.450,P < 0.05) and the scale of personal resources was also significantly different(F=32.078,P <0.05) among the teachers from different universities.With the increase of occupational stress,the score of the quality of life decreased.The regression coefficient of physical component and personal strain was negative(β=-0.390,t=-24.333; P < 0.05) and the regression coefficient of mental component and personal strain was also negative(β=-0.466,t=-24.054; P < 0.05).Conclusion The findings indicate the association between occupational stress and the quality of life among teachers of universitiy and sustaining occupational stress could lead to the decline of the quality of life.
