Health literacy among scavengers in Xuzhou city

ObjectiveTo examine the status of health literacy among scavengers in Xuzhon city of Jiangsu province for improving their living quality.MethodsTotally 428 scavengers were randomly selected to participate a questionnaire survey.ResultsAmong the scavengers,the average age was 59.72 years and 75.2% (316/420)had primary or lower education.The total correct answer rate for health knowledge was 51.43%;total formation rate of health behavior was 17.01%.ConclusionThe scavengers in Xuzhou city have a older age,low education,and little health literacy and effective strategies need to be taken to improve their health literacy.
