Effect of comprehensive case management and service system for HIV/AIDS in Guangzhou city

  • ObjectiveTo evaluate the effect of human immunodeficiency virus/accquired immunodeficiency syndrome(HIV/AIDS)comprehensive case management and service system in Guangzhou ciyt for improvements of psychosocial behavior and the quality of life among people living with HIV/AIDS.MethodsTotally 363 HIV/AIDS cases were interviewed face-to-face to obtain information on high risk behavior before and after HIV infection.The quality of life,social support,depression and anxiety status of the subjects were compared with those before the inplementation of the system.ResultsAfter the notification of HIV infection,58.4% (139/238)of the HIV/AIDS cases had decreased number of sexual partner,79.0% (188/238)had increased condom use,61.9% (13/21)had reduced frequency of intra-venous drug injection,and 77.8% (7/9)had decreased frequency of sharing syringe.The average scores of quality of life for physical,psychological,social relationship,and environment were 63.99,56.65,54.87,and 52.06.The total score of social support was 28.67±7.68.The prevalence of depressive and anxious symptoms was 38.8% (138/356)and 22.7% (82/361),respectively.ConclusionThe HIV/AIDS comprehensive case management and service system in Guangzhou city plays a positive role in reducing high-risk behaviors,increasing social support and improving the quality of life among the people living with HIV/AIDS.
