Intervention effect of health education on circumcision among migrant population

  • ObjectiveTo evaluate the effect of health education about circumcision related knowledge on circumcision among migrant population.MethodsComprehensive epidemiological intervention activities were conducted among migrant population in Chongqing city from May 2010 to June 2011.The intervention methods included providing paper and audio-visual materials of health education, lectures by college student volunteers and experts. The evaluation on the effect of the health education was conducted after six months.ResultsThe average score of circumcision knowledge before and after the intervention was 4.64±0.12 and 8.41±0.033,with a significant difference(F=88.210,P<0.001).The knowledge rates of the benefit, best period and complication of circumcision were higher than before after the intervention.Logistic regression analysis showed that the factors increasing the knowledge level of circumcision were awareness of someone around having circumcision(odds ratioOR=132.847,95% confidence intervalCI:3.605-980.131)and low knowledge score at base-line survey(OR=0.217,95%CI:0.052-0.912).ConclusionThe level of circumcision related knowledge among migrant population is poor and intervention activities can effectively improve the knowledge level among the population.
