Validity and reliability of an assessment scale for bacteria food poisoning alarming service

  • ObjectiveTo assess the validity and reliability of the assessment scale for bacteria food poisoning alarming and to provide valid and reliable tools for assessing bacteria food poisoning alarming service in Shanghai city.MethodsTotally 438 valid answers to a self-designed assessment scale for bacteria food poisoning alarming were collected in a cross-sectional survey with convenience sampling. The test-retest reliability, internal consistent reliability, content validity, and construct validity of the scale were assessed using Cronbach α coefficient,split-half coefficient,item-level content validity index(I-CVI),and confirmatory factor analysis(CFA).ResultsThe total Cronbach α coefficient of the scale was 0.827.The split half coefficient was 0.521.The range of I-CVI for 13 items of the scale were 0.81-1.00,with an average I-CVI of 0.92.The initial model of confirmatory fix index(CFI) was constructed according to the logical framework approach and the results of exploratory factor analysis. The results of construct validity analyses showed that the goodness of fit for final CFA model was fair(χ2/df=3.643.goodness-of-fit index GFI=0.920,average goodness-fit index AGFI=0.889,normed fit index NFI=0.918,CFI=0.8819,and root mean square error of aproximation RMSEA=0.049).The factor loadings were all above 0.3,with statistical significance.ConclusionThe results showed that the internal consistent reliability, content validity, and construct validity of the assessment scale on bacteria food poisoning alarming were fair and met the basic psychometric demands. The adjusted scale(12 items) could be used as a quantitative tool to assess bacteria food poisoning alarming in Shanghai city.
