Comprehensive assessment of health literacy and its influencing factors in residents of Wuhan city

  • Objective To investigate the health literacy and its influencing factors in the residents of Wuhan city,and to provide basis for developing intervention strategy.Methods Random multi-stage stratified sampling was used to select residents aged 15-69 years.A self-designed questionnaire was used to evaluate the health literacy and analyze its influencing factors. Results Totally 5 495 valid questionnaires were collectel with a response rate of 98.1%. The health literacy index of the residents for general index,knowledge,behavior,and skill were 0.62±0.17, 0.69±0.18,0.55±0.20,and 0.60±0.24,respectively. Residential place,education,age,marital status,and income were main factors affecting health literacy based on the results of logistic regression analysis. Conclusion The health literacy of Wuhan residents is at a medium level,and the health literacy level of urban residents is higher than rural and migrant population.
