Association between apolipoprotein E gene polymorphisms and components of metabolic syndrome in Chinese population:a meta analysis

  • ObjectiveTo explore the association between apolipoprotein E(ApoE)gene polymorphisms and components of metabolic syndrome(MS)in Chinese population.MethodsDocuments of case-control studies on relationship between polymorphisms of ApoE gene and MS published during 1998-2012 were retrieved through CBMdisc,CNKI,Medline,Pubmed Library.Review Manager 4.2 was used to calculate the pooled odds ratio(OR)and 95% confidence interval.Sensitivity was assessed with different effect model and funnel plot was adopted for publishing bias analysis.ResultsA total of 25 case-control studies were selected for this meta-analysis.The results showed that compared with those of the controls the distributions of allele E2 and E3 and genotype E2/E2,E3/E3 of hyperuricemia cases were significantly different with the pooled ORs of 0.46,1.73,0.05,and 1.60.In addition, the distributions of allele and genotype of the genes in cases of insulin resistance, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia were also significantly different from those of the controls.ConclusionApoE gene polymorphism is related to MS and different components of MS demonstrate different gene polymorphism.ApoE gene polymorphism is a risk factor for MS.
