Molecular typing of rotavirus isolated in Urumqi,2012

  • ObjectiveTo investigate epidemic and genotype characteristics of rotavirus in infants and young children in Urumqi,2012.MethodsFrom Janurary to December 2012,totally 300 stool specimens were collected from 0 to 60 months old infants and young children with diarrhea in the First People's Hospital of Urumqi.Enzyme-1inked immunosorbent assay was used to detect rotavirus antigen. For positive samples, nest reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction was conducted to determine the G and P genotypes of rotavirus.ResultsAmong the 300 stool specimens,131 were rotavirus antigen positive.G molecular typing showed that G9 was the predominant strain(53.44%),followed by G2(17.56%),G3(12.98%),G1(9.92%),and G mix(6.11%).P molecular typing showed that P8 was the predominant strain(73.28%),followed by P4(20.61%)and P mix(5.34%).The most common G/P combination identified was G9P8(48.85%),followed by G2P4(17.56%).ConclusionThere was a drift of predominant strain from G3 to G9 of rotavirus in Urumqi,2012.G9P8 become the most common genotype in the area.
