Molecular typing of rotavirus isolated in Urumqi,2012

ObjectiveTo investigate epidemic and genotype characteristics of rotavirus in infants and young children in Urumqi,2012.MethodsFrom Janurary to December 2012,totally 300 stool specimens were collected from 0 to 60 months old infants and young children with diarrhea in the First People's Hospital of Urumqi.Enzyme-1inked immunosorbent assay was used to detect rotavirus antigen.For positive samples,nest reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction was conducted to determine the G and P genotypes of rotavirus.ResultsAmong the 300 stool specimens,131 were rotavirus antigen positive.G molecular typing showed that G9 was the predominant strain(53.44%),followed by G2(17.56%),G3(12.98%),G1(9.92%),and G mix(6.11%).P molecular typing showed that P8 was the predominant strain(73.28%),followed by P4(20.61%)and P mix(5.34%).The most common G/P combination identified was G9P8(48.85%),followed by G2P4(17.56%).ConclusionThere was a drift of predominant strain from G3 to G9 of rotavirus in Urumqi,2012.G9P8 become the most common genotype in the area.
