Synergistic effect of family hypertension history and hyperuricemia on incidence of hypertension

ObjectiveTo study the interaction between family hypertension history and hyperuricemia and its effect on the incidence of hypertension.MethodsTotally 2 515 newly diagnosed hypertension patients and 2 650 people with normal blood pressure and at the age of 35 years or older were selected from 100 communities in 6 urban areas of Qing-dao city for a case-control study.A questionnaire survey,physical examination and laboratory test were carried out among the participants.Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used in data analyses.ResultsFamily hypertension history and hyperuricemia had positive relation with hypertension(P<0.001).After adjusting for confounding factors,a synergy index(1.67)between family hypertension history and hyperuricemia was observed,with an attributable interaction of 0.60;the attributable proportion due to the interaction was 24.1% and the pure attributable proportion due to the interaction was 40.1%.ConclusionThere is a synergistic effect between family hypertension history and hyperuricemia on the incidence of hypertension.
