Knowledge of malaria prevention among rural residents in Liaoning province

  • ObjectiveTo examine cognitive awareness related to malaria prevention among rural residents in Liaoning province and to provide information for comprehensive malaria prevention and effective intervention.MethodsA total of 1 680 rural residents in Dandong city were selected with random sampling to answer a malaria prevention knowledge questionnaire.The data collected were analyzed statistically.ResultsThe awareness rate of malaria prevention in the residents was 18.57%(312/1 680).The awareness rate of malaria prevention showed a significant difference between the adult residents(16.55%,141/852)and the school children(20.65%,171/828)(χ2=11.753,P<0.05).The awareness rate of malaria prevention had significant differences among the residents with different education levels(χ2=11.753,P<0.05).ConclusionThe rural residents in Dandong city were lack of knowledge on malaria prevention and prevention policies and specific interventions should be conducted to reduce the incidence of malaria.
