Dietary patterns associated with osteoporosis in postmenopausal women

  • Objective To investigate the association between dietary patterns and osteoporosis. Methods We randomly selected 282 postmenopausal women from Harbin city.We used factor analysis to define major dietary patterns by using dietary information collected with food frequency questionnaire(FFQ)and used logistic regression to analyse the dietary patterns associated with osteoporosis. Results We got four main diet patterns("meat","vegetable","milk",and "staple food" pattern)using factor analysis.Multivariate logistic regression showed that "milk" pattern could reduce the risk of osteoporosis.Compared with the lowest quartile(Q1),the women in highest quartile for milk consumption(Q4)had a lower risk of osteoporosis(odds ratioOR=0.311,95%confidence intenval95%CI=0.115-0.838).Conclusion Four main diet patterns are "meat","vegetable","milk",and "staple food" pattern and dietary patterns are closely related with osteoporosis among postmenopausal women.
