Quality of life and its influencing factors among patients with methadone maintenance treatment

Objective To explore the quality of life among methadone maintenance treatment patients in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region(Guangxi) and to identify its determinants.Methods A field investigation was conducted to survey demographic characteristics and the quality of life among 670 methadone maintenance treatment patients using a self-administered questionnaire.Results The mean total score of quality of life for the Han and ethnic minority patients was 145.91±28.72 and 150.95±27.81(P<0.05);the mean total score of quality of life for the unemployed and employed patients was 142.89±28.81 and 152.25±27.39(P<0.05); the mean total score of quality of life for the patients with monthly earning of <100,100-499,500-999,and ≥1000(RMB Yuan) was 140.19±30.60,141.46±26.63,153.28±25.55,and 156.13±25.70,respectively(P<0.05).The results of multivariate analysis showed that marital status and personal monthly income were influencing factors for the total score of quality of life among the patients.Conclusion Marital status and personal income level are important determinants for quality of life among the patients with methodone maintenance treatment.
