First detection of group A rotavirus G9 in Liaoning province

  • Objective To investigate the prevalence of group A rotavirus in Liaoning province and to provide evidences for control of rotavirus infection.Methods A totol of 135 stool specimens were collected from suspected virus diarrhea patients and group A rotavirus was detected with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).VP7 gene and VP4 gene of group A rotavirus were amplified by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT- PCR).The PCR products were sequenced and compared and phylogenetic tree was constructed according to VP7 gene of A rotavirus.Results Among the specimens,21 were group A rotavirus.Nucleotide sequence comparison and phylogenetic analysis identified 15 cases of G9 genotype of group A rotavirus,2 cases of G3,one case of G2,one case of G1,and 2 cases of unidentified genotype.P genotype results of group A rotavirus showed 20 cases of P8and one case of P4.There were totally 15 isolates of G9P8 A rotavirus,2 isolates of G3P8,2 isolates of G/P8,and one isolate of G2P4.Conclusion G9 genotype of group A rotavirus was detected for the first time and G9P8 isolates were dominant in Liaoning province.
