Level, satisfaction of remuneration for medical service and its influencing factors among rural doctors in western China:based on classification of administrative village

  • Objective To explore the level, satisfaction to remuneration for medical service and its influencing factors among rural doctors in western China based on the classification of administrative village. Methods A questionnaire survey was carried out among 141 rural doctors selected with convenience sampling from 141 administrative villages of 4 counties in Qinghai province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.Descriptive, K-means cluster and multi-linear regression were used in data analyses. Results Though K-means cluster analyses, the 141 administrative villages were devided into development village(30), control village(70), and remote village(41)based on the acreage, number of households and average annual income of the residents of the village. For all the doctors surveyed, the average remuneration for medical service was 1 983.29(±1 662.15)yuan RMB per month and the average remuneration satisfaction was 2.35(±0.61) in a 5-scale-measurement.Multiple regression analyses showed that the influencing factors of satisfaction to the remuneration were the distance of a round mddical visit, the time consumed for a round visit, and the time working in village clinic required by a township hospital for the doctors in the development villages, whether the clinic of the rural doctor working in being a designated facility for the New Rural Cooperative Medical System for the doctors in the control villages, and the time working in the village clinic and whether engaged in other business for the doctors in remote villages. Conclusion Rural doctors in western China had a low remuneration level and low remuneration satisfaction and the influence factors for the remuneration satisfaction were different among rural doctors from administrative villages with different territory and economic contidions.
