Cognition of asthma guidelines among doctors in Jinhua city

  • Objective To evaluate the status of knowledge on asthma diagnosis, treatment, and prevention among doctors in Jinhua city of Zhejiang province for improving technological level of the doctors.Methods We performed a face-to-face questionnaire survey on demographic information, educational background, professional qualifications, and asthmatic knowledge among 741 general practitioners, pediatricians, and physicians from 32 hospitals at various levels during August to September, 2014.Results Of the respondents, nearly half(49.80%, 369/741)were aged between 31 and 40 years;60.73%(450/741)had a university diploma and 37.25%(276/741)were attending physicians.The rates of training on asthma guidelines were 13.25%(33/249)to 70.15%(141/201)and the correct answer rates for asthma diagnosis and treatment were 24.38%(177/726)-95.96%(711/741)and 54.29%(399/735)-94.97%(698/735)for the respondents from hospitals at different levels, respectively.The respondents working in hospitals of second- or third-level had higher scores than those working in health care centres.Conclusion The doctors from the community health care centers had relatively less professional knowledge on asthma than those working in hospitals of second- or third-level.
