Intervention effect of comprehensive community management on trouble-making behaviors among patients with severe psychosis in China: a meta-analysis

  • Objective To evaluate intervention effect of comprehensive community management on the incidence of trouble-making behaviors among the patients with severe psychosis and to provide references for the development of intervention model for treatment and management of patients with severe psychosis. Methods Studies published in both English and Chinese on comprehensive community management on trouble-making behaviors among the patients with severe psychosis were searched through databases, including Pubmed,Elsevier Science Direct,Web of Knowledge,China Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),National Digital Journal Full-Text Database,Chinese Scientific Journals Database, and Chinese Bio-Medical Literature Database, and evaluated with the inclusion and exclusion criteria strictly.Stata 11.0 software was used in the meta-analysis and the related rate(RR) of the incidence of trouble-making behaviors before and after the interventions among the participants in the studies recruited was used as the indicator of intervention effect. Results A total of 17 studies were included in the meta-analysis,with the 10 807 patients in the intervention groups and 10 917 patients in the control groups. The meta-analysis results showed that the RR of incidence of trouble-making behaviors among the patients under the comprehensive community recovery and treatment management was 0.233(95% confidence interval:0.183-0.298),compared to the incidence prior to the management or to the patients not covered by the management. The results of both the Begg's funnel plot and the trim and fill method showed that there was no publication bias for all the studies included. Conclusion Comprehensive community management on recovery and treatment of the patients with severe psychosis can effectively reduce the incidence of trouble-making behaviors among the patients and reduce disease burden of severe psychosis to the society and family members of the patients.
