Health effects of polybrominated diphenyl ethers contamination on women and children: a review

  • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers(PBDEs) are widely present in the environment because of its considerable application in industrial production.PBDEs may cause cancer, endocrine disorders, nerve system damage and may also impact women's reproductive health and children's growth through digestive tract absorption. However, the metabolic processes in human body and toxicity mechanisms of PBDEs are not clear due to its complexity in vivo metabolism, which need to be confirmed by further studies.
