Association of acetyl-CoA carboxylase beta gene polymorphisms with risk for coronary heart disease

  • ObjectiveTo assess the association between acetyl-CoA carboxylase beta gene(ACACB) polymorphisms and coronary heart disease(CHD) in a Cantonese population.MethodsFirst,a tag single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)(rs2268388) was picked out from ACACB gene. Then, genotyping for this SNP locus was performed using SNPscanTM Kit in 1 044 CHD cases and 1349 health controls. Finally, several statistical methods like Chi-square test and logistic regression modeling were used to examine its association with CHD.ResultsNo significant association between rs2268388 and CHD was found in both allelic association analysis and genotypic association analysis after adjustment for gender, age, hypertension, diabetes, smoking, total cholesterol, and body mass index(P=0.508,odds ratioOR,95% confidence interval,95% CI)=0.956(0.835-1.093).However,further stratification analysis by gender, hypertension, and diabetes demonstrated that in the diabetes subgroup,rs2268388 was significantly associated with CHD(P=0.019,OR 95% CI)=7.856(1.406-43.89).ConclusionIn Cantonese,ACACB rs2268388 polymorphism may have relevance with CHD complicated with diabetes, and further studies are required to elucidate its molecular mechanisms.
