Association between serotonin receptor genes and suicide behavior

  • ObjectiveTo explore the associations of single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) of 5-hydroxytryptamine-1B receptor(5-HT1BR) gene rs6298,5-hydroxytryptamine 2A receptor(5-HT2AR) gene rs6311 and rs6313,and 5-hydroxytryptamine 2B receptor(5HT2BR) gene rs765458 with suicidal behavior.MethodsThe blood samples of 281 depression patients with impulsive suicide attempt and 300 age-matched healthy physical examinees were selected in a hospital from November 2012 through March 2014.The DNA of the blood samples was extracted and genoptyped with TapMan SNP genotyping probe.χ2 test was adopted in statistical analyses to compare the differences in the distribution of gene alleles between the cases and controls.ResultsThere were significant differences in the genotype frequencies of 5-HT2AR gene rs6311(χ2=20.736,P=0.000) and rs6313(χ2=7.645,P=0.022) between the cases and the controls. No significant differences were observed in genotypes of 5-HT1BR gene rs62985 and 5-HT2BR gene rs765458 and in the allele frequencies of 5-HT1BR gene rs6298,5-HT2AR gene rs6311 and rs6313,and 5-HT2BR gene rs765458 between the cases and the controls(all P>0.05).ConclusionThe SNPs of 5-HT2AR gene rs6311 and rs6313 are significantly associated with suicidal behavior, but the SNPs of 5-HT1BR gene rs6298,5-HT2BR gene rs765458 have no significant association with suicidal behavior.
