Prevalent characteristics of gynecological diseases among adult outpatients in Shannan prefecture of Tibet

  • Objective To examine distributive character of gynecological diseases among adult outpatients in Shannan prefecture of Tibet Autonomous Region(Tibet) and to provide evidences for prevention and treatment of the diseases in the area.Methods Totally 1136 adult gynecological disease outpatients were recruited in People's Hospital of Shannan Prefecture from January to June 2015.Demographic and age distribution of gynecological diseases among the participants were analyzed.Results The average age of the outpatients was 33.58±9.18 years and 42.08%(478) of the participants were at the ages of 21-30 years.Of the outpatients, 63.73%(724) were farmers and herdsmen.The most prevalent disease was pelvic inflammation(36.53%, 415) among the outpatients.There was a significant age difference in the prevalence of different gynecological diseases among the outpatients(χ2=47.275, P=0.001), with higher prevalences of pelvic inflammation(45.78%) for the outpatients aged 21-30 years and vaginitis(46.59%), annex cyst(39.78%), and cervical erosion(39.66%) for the outpatients aged 31-40 years, respectively.Conclusion The majority of gynecological disease outpatients in Shannan prefecture of Tibet are childbearing women engaged in agriculture or animal husbandry; pelvic inflammation is the most prevalent gynecological disease and age difference exits in the prevalent type of gynecological diseases among the outpatients.
