  • Objective To examine knowledge, attitude and practice(KAP) about cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) among community residents in Haizhu district of Guangzhou city, Guangdong province, and to provide a theoretical basis and practical guidance for making strategies of CPR training in the residents. Methods Totally 778 residents aged 15-75 years were selected from 4 communities in Haizhu district of Guangzhou city with stratified random sampling and survey with a self-designed questionnaire from September to November 2014.Results The overall average KAP scores for CPR were 8.32±6.45, 14.37±4.26, and 8.26±9.41, respectively, in the residents.Correlation analyses showed that the score of CPR knowledge was positively correlated with CPR attitude and practice(r=0.54, 0.58, P<0.05) and the score of CPR attitude was also positively correlated with that of CPR practice(r=0.61, P=0.025);the KAP scores significantly differed by age, education level and occupation among the residents(all P<0.05).Conclusion The scores of knowledge and practice for CPR are low but the attitude score for CPR is high among community residents in Haizhu district of Guangzhou city;the results indicate specific education programs on CPR should be carried out in community residents of the city.
