Mortality and disease burden of circulatory system diseases among residents in mortality surveillance sites in Guangxi, 2008-2012

  • Objective To examine mortality and disease burden of circulatory system diseases (CSDs) among residents in 7 sentinel sites for mortality surveillance in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (Guangxi) from 2008 through 2012 and to provide evidences for making CSDs control strategy. Methods Data on registered deaths of CSDs in community residents of 7 mortality sentinel sites in Guangxi from January 1,2008 to December 31,2012 were collected and mortality distribution and disease burden of CSDs were analyzed. Results A total of 33 308 deaths of CSDs during the 5-year period among the residents were registered, with an average annual mortality rate of 218.41 per 100 thousands and an average standardized annual mortality rate of 217.42 per 100 thousands. The annual mortality rate of CSDs showed a rising trend during the period (χtrend2=182.93,P<0.001),with the rates of 175.46,219.68,222.02,241.92,and 225.53 per 100 thousands for the year of 2008,2009,2010,2011,and 2012,respectively.The four major CSDs mortality among the residents were cerebrovascular disease, ischemic heart disease, hypertension, rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease and the average annual mortality rates for the four diseases were 120.67,57.60,14.27,and 6.42 per 100 thousands. The overall years of potential life lost (YPLL) were 162 061 person-years;the years of potential life lost rate (YPLLR) was 10.63‰;and the standardized years of potential life lost rate (SYPLLR) was 10.34‰ due to CSDs among the residents during the period. Conclusion The mortality rate of CSDs increased and the disease burden of CSDs was high among residents in mortality surveillance sentinel sites in Guangxi from 2008 through 2012.
