Progresses in researches on potentially inappropriate medication among elderly persons

  • Due to changes in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics because of aging,the elderly are prone to use potentially inappropriate medication (PIM).Some studies have revealed the incidence of PIM was as high as 30.4% among community elderly people in China,suggesting that effective interventions on PIM are warranted urgently in the population.This article reviews a number of evaluation tools developed for the screening of PIM in older persons and provides references for developing strategies aimed to rational medicine use in the elderly in China.
