Job satisfaction and its influencing factors among grassroots staff engaged in malaria control in China

  • Objective To analyze the job satisfaction and its influencing factors among grassroots staff engaged in malaria control in China and to provide references for realizing the goal of malaria elimination in the areas. Methods With typical sampling,a total of 382 grassroots malaria control staff were selected from 6 counties (districts) in Henan,Hubei and Hainan provinces for a questionnaire survey from December 2013 to December 2015.Multivariate linear regression model was adopted to explore the factors related to job satisfaction in the staff. Results The overall score of job satisfaction in the staff was 3.956±0.750;the satisfaction scores were 4.134±0.785 for policy and leadership,3.946±0.844 for working environment,3.859±0.862 for medical facilities,3.893±0.934 for drug delivery,4.047±0.898 for training, and 3.780±0.854 for the participation of patients and residents, respectively. The results of multivariate linear regression showed that the staff in Henan province had a higher job satisfaction than the staff in Hainan province;the staff working in centers for disease control and prevention at county or district level,in township hospitals, and in village clinics had a lower job satisfaction than those working in hospitals at county or district level;the staff engaged in malaria control had a lower job satisfaction than those engaged in clinical practice. The job satisfaction was reversely correlated with the grade of professional title among the staff engaged in malaria control. Conclusion Job satisfaction of grassroots staff engaged in malaria control is relatively high and mainly influenced by region, type of the institute, specialty, and professional title.
