Evaluation on surveillance system for acute flaccid paralysis in Jinzhou municipality,2012-2016

Objective To analyze epidemiological characteristics of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) cases reported during the period from 2012 to 2016 through infectious disease surveillance system for the evaluation on the performance of AFP monitoring system in Jinzhou municipality,and to provide evidences for maintaining polio-free in the region.Methods Data on AFP cases reported between 2012 through 2016 in Jinzhou municipality were collected form Infectious Disease Surveillance System of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and analyzed with epidemiological methods.The technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) was adopted to evaluate the performance of AFP monitoring system in Jinzhou municipality.Results Totally 26 AFP cases were reported during the period in the region.Of the reported cases,24 were clinically confirmed and 2 were suspected;17 were male and 9 were female;the majority (15) of the reported cases were scattered-living children.The annual AFP incidence was under 1/100 000 and the average annual incidence was 1.442/100 000 during the period.The annual performance indicators of the AFP monitoring system in Jinzhou municipality met the national requirements during the period,except for those in the year of 2016.The results of TOPSIS analysis showed that the performance indicators of the monitoring system were the best in 2012 and the worst in 2016 according the national requirements.Conclusion The sensitivity of AFP monitoring system in Jinzhou municipality is up to the standard of national requirements,but the yearly performance of the system is not same and supervision and management for the system need to be strengthened.
