Relationship between personality and quality of life in breast cancer patients

  Objective   To investigate the association between self reported quality of life(QOL)and personality of China female patients with br east cancer in Harbin.

  Methods   119 breast cancer patients completed the the world Health Organization Quality of Life(WHOQOL)100 scale, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ), Zung's self rating Depression Scale (SDS)and Zung's self rating Anxiety Scale(SAS).

  Results   The scores of N factor of EPQ were found to be negatively correlated with scores of quality of life, especially psy chological do main.The quality of life of breast cancer patients was reduced when compared with the norm(P < 0.05), the secores of anxiety and depression was higher than those of the norm.

  Conclusion   High neuroticism is associated with a lowered QOL, and psycho therapy should be indicated as an integral part of treatment.
