Protective effects of flavonoids of Ginkgo Biloba on liver oxidative damage of male mice induced by chronic alcohol intakes

  •   Objective   To study the protective effects of flavo noids of ginkgo biloba on liver ox idative damage induced by chronic alcohol intakes in male mice.
Methods   After pre-ingesting preventive reagent, flavonoids of ginkgo biloba〔96 mg/(kgºbw)〕, the male mice were treated by alcohol〔3.2 g ethanol/(kgºbw)〕via i.g, meanwhile, the normal control group and ethanol control group〔3.2 g ethanol/(kgºbw)〕were set up.The activity of glutamic-pyruvic transaminase(ALT)and glutamic oxaloacetic transminase(AST)in mice serum were measured, meanwhile, the concentration of glutathione(GSH), malondialdehyde(MDA)and the activity of glutathione per oxidase(GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase(SOD)and catalase(CAT) in the liver and serum were determined when the mice were continuously treated for 75 days.
Results   The activity of AST and ALT in serum and MDA level in serum and liver increased significantly, and the activity of GSH-Px, SOD and CAT and GSH content decreased significantly(P < 0.01).The supplement of flavonoid of ginkgo biloba could significantly prohibit the rise of ALT, AST and MDA level and the decline of GSG-Px, SOD, CAT and GSH content which were induced by chronic alcohol intakes.
Conclusion   Flavonoids of ginkgo biloba had some protective effects on oxidative damage of mice liver by chronic alcohol intakes.
