Cytotoxicity induced by sodium fluoride in primary cultured rat hepatocytes

  Objective   The cytotoxicity induced by sodium fluoride in primary cultured rathepatocytes was studied.

  Methods   Hepatocytes were cultured with various concentrations of sodium fluoride for 24 hours to observe its effect on the cell viability and the activities of AST and ALT.

  Results   Adose-dependent decrease of cell viability was detected in the hepatocytes and the IC₅₀ was 3.58 mmol/L.The activities of AST and ALT increased with the doses increase of sodium fluoride.The activities of AST and ALT in the 2 and 4 mmol/L groups were significantly higher than the control group(P < 0.05).

  Conclusion   Sodium fluo ride significantly induced toxicity in primary cultured rathepatocytes.
