Protective effect of shielding measures on learning and memory capacity disorder caused by electromagnetic irradiation

  •   Objective   To determine the influence of electromagnetic irradiation on learning and memory capacity and Ca2+ level of hippocampus synaptosomes in rat.And observe the protective effect of different shielding measures.
Methods   The learning and memory ability of rats were assessed by AAR and PAR.The Ca2+ level of hippocampus synaptosomes in rat was detected with fluoresene indicator Fura-2.And the influence of different shielding measure on learning and memory ability and Ca2+ level of hippocampus synaptosomes was observed in rat.
Results   Electromagnetic irradiation induced the long-term memory and short-term memory hypomnesis. The Ca2+ level of hippocampus synaptosomes increased at 0 and 24 h after irradiation. After whole body being shielded electromagnetic irradiation, there existed no influence on learning and memory capacity and Ca2+ level of hippocampus synaptosomes. But trunk shielding was without the same protective effects as whole body shielding.
Conclusion   The learning and memory capacity and Ca2+ level of hippocampus synaptosomes of rat were influenced by electromagnetic irradiation. The overload of Ca2+ in hippocampus synaptosomes may be the reason to injury the learning and memory capacity.Whole body shielding had satisfied protective effects.Trunk shielding had some preserving effects for middle and low dose electromagnetic wave. But for high dose electromagnetic wave, trunk shielding almost had no otective effects.
