Relationship between ciprofloxacin resistance and gyrA gene mutation in neisseria gonorrhoeae

  •   Objective   To study the relationship between ciprofloxacin resistance and mutations in the quinolone resistance determining region(QRDR)of gyrA gene in neisseria gonorrhoeae.
Methods   The QRDR fragement of gyrA gene was amplified by PCR method, and the sequence of the PCR product was determined by direct sequence determination method in order to see if there were mutations in the QRDR fragement.
Results   There were no mutations in QRDR of gyrA gene among all 6 strains ciprofloxacin-resistant gonococci.
Conclusion   The ciprofloxacin resistance was not due to mutations in gyrA gene and it likely contributed to other mechanism.
