Effect of occupational stress on mental health of video display terminal operators

  •   Objective   To explore the main occupational stressors and influencing factors on mental health of the male and female of VDT operators.
      Methods   To investigate VDT operators in banks in Ningxia using the occupational stress indicator(OSI).
      Results   Male VDT operators had higher score of recognition, mental health, contentment, peace of mind and drive than female(P < 0.05 orP < 0.01), but they had lower score of workload and physical complaints than female(P < 0.05 orP < 0.01).It was found that the main predicting factors of the stepwise regression for job satisfaction, mental health and physical complaints of male VDT operators were hassless and home/work balance, workload and that of female were relationships and length of service, hassles and managerial role.
      Conclusion   The chief occupational stress factors and strain of male VDT operators were remarkably different from female one.So were main influencing mental health.
