Effects of psychological factors of family and society on suicidal ideation of undergraduates

  Objective   To study the status and risk factors of suicidal ideation of undergraduates in Guangzhou city, and to provide basis for prevention.

  Methods   By random sampling, 2143 undergraduates were investigated with uniform questionnaire in six universities of Guangzhou city. One-way χ² test and multi-factor logistic regression were adopted to identify risk factor for suicidal ideation.

  Results   Among 2143 undergraduates, 397 regorted suicidal ideation, accounting for 18.53%.Multiple logistic repression analysis showed that the major risk factors for suicidal ideation were idea of homicide (OR=2.912), feeling oneself guiltiness (OR=2.085), loneliness (OR=1.729), the intimate friend's death (OR= 1.683), liking of dwelling by oneself (OR=1.672), disappointed of the future (OR=1.599), etc.

  Conclusion   Suicidal ideation was formed by multi-factors, measurements to prevent suicide should be taken.
