Antioxidation effects of pyracantha on aging mice model induced by overdose of D-galactose

  •   Objective   To study the anti-aging of pyracantha on aging mice model induced with overdose of D-galactose.
Methods   Four groups of mice were fed respectively with standard diet(2 control groups), 85% standard diet plus 15% pyracantha (group Ⅰ), and 70% standard diet plus 30% pyracantha(group Ⅱ), while the aging model was induced by subaxillary injection of D-galactose 80 mg/kg for 42 days, the MDA, SOD, GSH-Px, GSH were determinated according to the technical manual of reagent.
Results   At the end of the experiment, the contents of Malondialehyde(MDA)in liver, heart and brain of groupⅠandⅡdeceased significantly contrast to D-galactose control group, and the activities of superoxide dismatase(SOD)in red blood cell, liver and brain increased, the activities of glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)and the contents of glutathione(GSH)increased in blood and liver, and the thymus weight index increased, too.
Conclusion   It was suggested that Pyracanthy had some antioxidation and might prolong the aging process of mice model induced by overdose of D-galactose.
