Study of walking activity intervention on population with high risk of type Ⅱ diabetes

  •   Objective   To learn the efficacy of walking activity intervention using pedometer to improve glycemic control in adults with high risk of type Ⅱ diabetes.
Methods   This was a multi-center,randomized,intervention trial.256 subjects were randomly assigned into one of three groups.Follow-up examinations were conducted after 6 months walking activity intervention.HbA1c and FBG were used as index of glucemic control.
Results   There was significant diference in the changes of HbA1c levels in all of three groups, and the difference between the pedometer intervention exercise group and the diet alone group was also significant(P<0.05),but no significant difference could be found between the pedometer intervention and the pedometer group, and also between the latter and the diet alone group. There was a negative correlation between changes in average number of steps and changes in HbA1c(r=-0.19,P<0.05).
Conclusion   The results showed that walking activity intervention was effective in improving glycemic control in adults with high risk of typeⅡ diabetes.
