Investigation on scrub typhus in Shandong province

  Objective   To learn the epidemic status of scrub typhus in Shandong province.

  Methods   Systemic survey was carried out in different regions in Shandong province by PCR and serological tests.

  Results   By PCR positive rats were found in the region north to Yellow River for the frist time in the province and the positive rate was 15.63%.Serological investigation showed that the positive rates of R.norvegicus and C.triton were 10% and 15.63% respectively.Weifang, Dongying and Heze were confirmed to be the epidemic area of scrub typhus in the province for the first time.

  Conclusion   Scrub typhus was epidemic extensively in the province.The major infetion source of infection was A.agrarius.Its serological positive rate was 19.46%;but R.norvegicus agrarlus and C triton maybe other important source of infection.
