Objective To observe the early morphologic changes in hyperglycemia rats.retina by using light microscope, and to explore its relationship with blood sugar and endothelin-1(ET-1).
Methods The model of hyperglycemia rats were reproduced by injecting allox an monohydrate into abdominal cavity, ET-1 in plasma and blood sugar could be measured by radioimmunity methods and blood sugar instruments respectively, and moryhologic changes could be seen by light microscope.
Results With the prolongation of course, persistent hyperglycemia may result in the increase of ET-1 level in rats.plasam, so that the morphologic changes in retinal structure can occur in disease.s early phase. At the the 4th week, abnormal changes could be observed and it turned severe at the 6th week.
Conclusion ET-1 can participate in the pathologic process of diabetic retinopathy, which meant that the occurrence of subclinical changes may be ahead of clinical symptoms.
