Comprehensive evaluation on semen quality of 562 healthy men

  •   Objective   To understand the status of quality of semen and its comprehensive evaluation indices in China.
Methods   Questionnaire and experimental methods were used to survey the semen quality. There were 562 healthy male volunteers during their pre-marriage physical examinations among MCHs in 7 geographical areas. The main statistical methods are descriptive and principal component analysis.
Results   The mean and standard deviation of semen volume was(2.61± 1110)ml.Semen density was(64.47±34.59)×106/ml.Sperm with forward progression was(59.89±17.11)%; sperm viability was(77.19±11.87)%; morphological percentage of normal sperm was(78.23±9.15)%.The differences of sperm with forward progression, viability and morphological percentage of normal sperm were within 20%, respectively, and the difference of semen density was 6.18%.Valid motile sperm index was 0-8.01, and its median was 0.87.There were 42.3% subjects whose indices met all WHO standards.
Conclusion   Relative errors of semen quality was 0.40%-6.18%, which indicated that detective technique used was reliable, and laboratory testers were well endowed with know-how, also showed that the second semen quality indices were of little variation.
