Effect of calcium on weight of rats fed high-fat diets

  •   Objective   To study the effect of high calcium diets and vitamin D on weight of obese rats fed high-fat diets.
      Methods   Thirty male Wistar rats were divided into there groups and fed different diets randomly.The ten rats of group A were fed the high-fat diets; the ten rats of group B were fed the high-fat diets and calcium; the ten rats of group C were fed the high-fat diets and calcium.After 1 week, the right leg of the gruop C were injected by vitamin D(15μg/kg·bw), the others was injected physiological salt water solution at the same time.The study lasted 28 days.
      Results   The weight of group B and gruop C were significantly lower than the group A.The epididymal and perirenal fat weight of group B was significantly lower than group A.The cholesterol levels of group B was significantly lower than group A.
      Conclusion   High calcium diets maybe affect blood fat levels by reducing fat store in abdominal to contribute to lose weight of rats.Teh action of vitamin D promoting the absorption of calcium, and affecting the absorption of lipid and blood fat level did not appear.
