Effects of family-based health education on knowledge, attitude and behavior in prevention of hypertension in adolescents

  •   Objective   To explore the family-based measures in prevention of hypertension in adolesoents.
      Methods   Family-based health education was provided for 224 adolescents with high level of blood pressure and their family members in three rural communities, and then to evaluate the effects on the levels of knowledge, attitude and behavior(KAB)in prevention of hypertension.
      Results   Levels of KAB were significantly improved in intervening group after two-year health education, as compared with that in control group(P < 0.05).Levels of KAB were significantly correlacted between the adolescents and their housewives(P < 0.01).
      Conclusion   Family-based health education, which effectively improved the levels of KAB, was an important way in prevention of hypertension in adolescents.
