Study on condition of cryptosporidium infection among male drug users in detoxification institute in Changsha city

  Objective   To investigate the condition of cryptosporidium infection among male drug users, and to provide scientific basis for cryptosporidiosis control policy.

  Methods   To get spot questionnaire investigation and collect stool samples from 903 male drug users through cluster-sampling.The specimens were examined for cryptospor ozoites by the rapid mo dified acid-fast two-step methods.

  Results   172 cases were positive in 903 cases.The total infection rate of cryptospor idium was 19.05%.There was significant difference among the infection rates of crytosporidium of different age groups.The infection situation was differentin different educational level, but the difference was not significant.The vocation had no statistical meaning too.Along with the increase of addiction-time, the infection rates of different addiction time groups increased in response, though there was no significant difference among those.

  Conclusion   The infection rate of cryptosporidium of male drug users was relatively high.So male drug users were crowd of high risk of cry ptosporidium infection and should be treated with key preventive measures.
