Investigation on knowledge, attitude and behavior about AIDS among medical university students

  •   Objective   To understand the status of knowledge, attitude and behavior(KAB)about AIDS among medical students and their influencing factors in order to provide the bases for AIDS prevention.
      Methods   One thousand four hundred and sixty-five medical students were surveyed with self-administered questionnaire including KAB questions about AIDS.
      Results   Medical students grasped some elementary knowledge of AIDS and knew major routes of AIDS transmission, but most of these students still lacked professional knowledge of AIDS; 49.4% students opposed sexual behaviors before marriage; 7.0% students admitted their sexual intercourse behaviors; 89.8% students wanted to learn more about STD/AIDS; 96.7% students considered it imperative to carry outhealth education program for AIDS prevention in universities.
      Conclusion   As a measure of primary prevention for AIDS, it would be very important to provide college students with health education about AIDS prevention as well as sex education systematically.The proposals would assist college students in improving their knowledge levels on AIDS and reducing their high risk sexual behaviors, also popularizing healthy concepts of sexual morality and behaviors for peers, family members, even the whole society simultaneously.
