Effects of selenium and chromium on glucose metabolism and antioxidant activity of diabetic mice

  •   Objective   To study the effects of selenium and chromium on glucose metabolism and antioxidantactivity of diabetic mice.
Methods   The model of experimental diabetic mice was established by abdominal cavity injection of alloxan with the dose of 200 mg/kg.The mice were divided into 4 groups:selenium, chromium, normal control and experimental control group.Selenium and chromium gr oup were respectively administered orally with the dose of 0.08 mg/(kgd)(Se4+)and 40 g/(kgd)(Cr 3+).After four weeks, blood glucose, T-AOC, M alondia ldehyde(MDA), Superoxide dismutas(SOD), G lutathione peroxidase(GSH-PX)were detected.
Results   Compared to experimental group, blood glucose level of selenium and chromium group decreased significantly(P < 0.01), the activity of SOD and GSH-Px as well as T-AOC capacity increased obviously(P < 0.05 or P < 0.01).Meanwhile, the level of MDA declined remarkably(P < 0.05 or P < 0.01).
Conclusion   Selenium and chromium can decrease the blood glucose, and can improve the antioxidantactivity of diabetic mice.
