Investigations on Evaluation of the Construction and the Results of Excreta Disposal of Deep-pit Rural Latrine in Frigid Area

It is evaluated that four kinds of rural household latrines which are applied in rural area of Panshi city, Jilin Province, are basically deep-pit type based on their constructions. The construction of excreta receptacle can serve the function of excreta disposal, when the excreta is stored for more than three months, in which the fecal colititreis increased two orders of magnitude and the death rate of ascaris ova is up to 95% be rcause ofanaerobicfermen tation Sinceitis difficult to separate the fresh excreta from the stored, composting is still necessary, therefore such deep-pit household latrinecombined with high-temperature compost can become a type of sanitary latrine, which fill in the gaps of no popularizable type of sanitary latrine in frigid areas. Two kinds of deep-pit latrines are more suitable to popularize in rural areas, their service life is more than five years on frigid condition with low cost. With the extension of latrine improvement peasants'life quality is increased and their environmental situationis improvedi which are w elcome by peas an ts very much.
