Abstract: Objective To study the relationship betw een serum adiponectin and insulin resistance in obese adolescents.Methods Height and body weight were ex amined in 940 students of 13~14 years-old.47 were selected as the obese group (BMI were>=95th percentile of age-and sex),and 50 as control group.Blood pressure,fasting blood glucose,insulin and serumadiponect in were determined,and HOMA-IR was calculated.The subjects.body composition was measured by dual energy V-ray absorption(DEXA).Results There were significant differences between two groups in blood pressure(P<0.05),BMI(P<0.01),HOMA-IR(P<0.01),trunk fat(P<0.01)and serum adiponectin(P<0.05).In ageneral multivariate regression,trunk fat and HOMA-IR were significantly independent deter minants for serumadiponectin concentration.Conclusion Serum adiponectin of obese adolescents were lower and negatively correlated to body fat and insulin resistance.
