Abstract: Objective To understand AIDS related konwledge and discrimination among governmental health department and other departmint officials in Shanxi province.Methods Convenience sampling was used to select 132 governmental health department officials and 79 other governmental department officials.Anonymous self-administrated questionnaire was used to collect information on AIDS knowledge and discrimination.Results The awareness rate of health governmental department officials was 89.1%,93.0%,and 89.2% for common knowledge,transmission route,and non-transmission route,respectively.However,awareness rate of other governmental department officials was 60.8% for common knowledge,92.7% for transm ission route,and 79.2% for non-transm ission route.The score of discrimination in health governmental department officials was 7.1 and 11.1 in other governmental department officials.The main manifestations of HIV/AIDS related discrimination were reluctantly buying goods produced by HIV psoitive workers(55.5%)and forbiding their children playing together with HIV positive children(53.6%).Multiple linear regression showed negative correlations between the discrimination and the awareness rate of non-transm ission route and the basic knowledge of AIDS among the health governmental department officials.There was a negative correlation between the discrimination and the awareness rate of basic knowledge of AIDS among other governmental department officials.Conclusion The health governmental department officials have lower rate of HIV/AIDS related discrimination than other governmental department officials.Lacking AIDS related knowledge is the major cause of AIDS related discrimination.
