Abstract:
ObjectiveTo understand the prevalence,cognition and risk factors of fall among the elderly in Qingpu district, Shanghai.
MethodsTotally 1655 elderly in communities were investigated with random cluster sampling and questionnaire survey.
ResultsThere were 130 elderly(35 males,95 female)had fall with a fall rate of 7.9% in the period of April, 2008 and April, 2009.The average times of fallwas 1.24 with a ratio 81.50% for one time,13.10% for two times, and 5.40% for three times.The fall rate was 5.9% for the elderly of 60-70 years old,8.8% for the elderly of 71-80 and 14.20% for the elderly more than 80 years.Most of the elderly had a little cognition about the knowledge and risk factors of fall.According to the results of multiple logistic model, sex,age,cerebrov asculard isease,chronic bronchitis,and cataract were independen trisk factors for fall.
ConclusionThe fall is prevalent among the elderly in Qingpu district, Shanghai and related with many factors.
